Women's Basketball Rolls to First Win
The Muhlenberg women's basketball team shot better than 60 percent from three-point range in the second half and rolled to an 84-29 win against Penn State Berks on the second day of the Gwynedd Mercy Tip-Off Tournament.
Already ahead 35-14 at the break, the Mules (1-1) outscored the Lions 27-5 in the third quarter, during which they sank five of six three-point tries, with five different players making the five threes.
All but one of Muhlenberg's 12 active players made a field goal in the game, with sophomores Faith Tucker (pictured above) and Lyndsey Costigan and hitting double figures for the first time as Mules, scoring 15 and 11, respectively.
A day after becoming the first Muhlenberg freshman in 19 years to score 16 points in the first game of her career, Veronica Dawson added another 16 in only 17 minutes. Senior Rachel Saxton also hit double figures, scoring 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
In addition to netting their first career points, freshmen Caitlyn D'Addieco (7 rebounds, 5 steals) and Erin Punter (7 rebounds, 3 blocked shots) contributed to a defensive effort that held the Lions under 20-percent shooting.
The 55-point margin of victory was the most for the Mules in a non-conference game since 2018.
