Men's Soccer Earns Third Seed

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a big 4-0 home win against McDaniel, clinching the third seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs.

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a big 4-0 home win against McDaniel, clinching the third seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs.

The Mules (10-3-5, 4-1-4) earned a return engagement with the Green Terror (9-6-2, 4-4-1), which will travel back to Allentown on Tuesday for a first-round playoff game. The game time will be determined on Monday.

McDaniel came in as the top defensive team in the CC, having allowed only six goals in its first eight league games. Muhlenberg hadn't scored more than two goals in its previous eight games but exploded in the second half to match its highest scoring output of the season.

Three of the four scorers for the Mules netted their first goal of the season, giving the team 14 different goal scorers.

Muhlenberg controlled play for the majority of the first half but didn't put one in until a Green Terror mistake opened the door. In the 44th minute, the McDaniel goalie attempted a long pass across the field. When his target slipped, sophomore Eric Armijos intercepted the pass and put the ball in the net for his first career goal.

Less than two minutes into the second half, freshman Thomas Shreiber took a nice pass from sophomore Gabe Blikshteyn and was headed to goal when he was tripped up in the box. Senior Kevin Adams converted the penalty kick for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Junior Omar Lopez made it 3-0 by scoring his first career goal in the 69th minute, and junior Elie Khalil, who assisted on the goal by Lopez, put the icing on the cake with 3:25 to play.

Muhlenberg finished with advantages of 17-5 in shots and 10-1 in corner kicks.

Junior Ben Mulford made a pair of saves to record his 19th career shutout.

The win gave Muhlenberg double figures in wins in the regular season for the second straight year.
