Men's Wrestling Defeats Hopkins at CC Duals
The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team won the middle of three matches in a day of strong competition at the Centennial Conference Duals.
The Mules (8-10, 1-3) defeated Johns Hopkins, 29-16, in between falling to Gettysburg, 23-18, and Merchant Marine, 26-15, in matches that they were in a position to win in the final bouts.
Senior Anson Dewar pinned all three of his opponents at 174, moving into a tie for seventh on the Mules' all-time list with 32 career falls. Senior Joey Lamparelli also went 3-0, picking up a pair of forfeit wins at 125 to go along with a major decision.
One of the forfeits, combined with a decision by sophomore CJ Horvath and a technical fall by sophomore Andrew Loniewski, gave Muhlenberg a 14-0 lead three bouts into the Hopkins match. But the Blue Jays took the next three contests, all with bonus points, to take a 16-14 advantage.
Dewar's second pin put Muhlenberg back on top, 20-16, before senior Mike LaRosa (pictured above) held on for a 13-10 decision at 184. Senior Paul Parise clinched the match with a 2-1 decision on a riding time advantage - his 60th career win - and senior Andrew Franklin put the icing on the cake by taking his opponent down early in overtime for a 4-1 sudden victory.
Senior Frank DiEsso recorded a major decision against Gettysburg for his 50th career win. Loniewski went 2-1 on the day.
