Another Record, More Personal Bests for Track & Field
The Muhlenberg College track and field teams continued their impressive buildup to the Centennial Conference meet with another strong meet at The Armory in New York City.
The Mules combined for 15 personal bests and one school record in their last big meet for the CC Championships.
Sophomore Maya Richwine set the school record in the 200 meters, running 26.07 to break a mark set in 2008. She finished sixth with the top time in the CC so far this season. Richwine also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.04 seconds, tied for the best time in the CC this season and just a hundredth of a second off her personal best.
Sophomore Christopher Short turned in the biggest performance for the men's team, winning the 400 meters in a field of 52 runners with a time of 49.62 seconds, cutting more than a half-second off his previous personal best and moving to within a second of the school record. He's only the second athlete in program history to break 50 seconds in the 400.
Three field athletes placed in the top eight for the women's team, with senior Erica Borbi coming in fourth in the weight throw with a personal best, junior Niki Matthews finishing fifth in the long jump, and freshman Ella Sarnitsky tying her personal best to take seventh in the pole vault. Matthews set a personal best in the hurdles.
In addition to Richwine, Short, Borbi, Sarnitsky, and Matthews, other athletes to set personal bests were:
