Women's Basketball Streak Hits 10

A strong middle two quarters fueled the Muhlenberg women's basketball team to a 54-44 win against Alvernia in its final game before Winter Break.

The win was the 10th straight for the Mules (10-1), giving them the 11th double-digit winning streak in program history. The last one came at the start of of 2017-18 season, when Muhlenberg tied a school record by winning 13 in a row. 

After the first quarter ended with the score tied 11-11, the Mules outscored the Golden Wolves (4-4) by a 37-22 margin in the second and third to take a 15-point advantage into the final period.

Muhlenberg scored the first six points of the fourth, extending its lead to 21, before Alvernia netted the final 11 points of the game.

A third-chance basket by senior Ava Connolly in the first minute of the second quarter gave the Mules the lead for good, and a three-pointer by junior Mia Fitzgerald put Muhlenberg ahead by double digits (29-18) for the first time.

Connolly added two three-pointers in the third quarter, which also featured 8 points from freshman Veronica Dawson.

Connolly finished with a game-high 13 points, while Dawson added 12. Senior Rachel Saxton recorded 9 points and 4 steals, while sophomore Lyndsey Costigan ended with 8 points and 9 rebounds.

Fitzgerald (pictured above), who will be studying abroad in Spain next semester, finished with 8 points, 4 assists and 3 steals in her last game of the season.
