Men's Wrestling Wraps Up CC Duals
The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team wrapped up its Centennial Conference dual season with a close 22-17 loss to defending champion Ursinus.
The Mules (8-11, 1-4) took a 17-15 lead into the final two bouts, but the Bears (8-6, 3-0), who have won 15 straight CC duals, got two wins from regionally ranked wrestlers to secure the match.
Sophomore Trey Miletics started the match on a positive note with a 7-5 decision at 157. Miletics (pictured above) was taken down early but went into the third period tied at 3-3 after reversing his opponent in the second period, then recorded a takedown in the final frame for the winning points.
In the shortest bout of the match, senior Anson Dewar needed just 1:26 to pin his regionally ranked opponent at 174. It was the fourth straight CC pin for Dewar, his eighth pin of the season (out of nine wins) and the 33rd pin of his career.
Senior Paul Parise recorded a 9-4 decision at 197, riding his opponent for the entire second period before breaking a 4-4 tie in the third with an escape and a takedown, to give Muhlenberg a 12-9 lead. At 285, senior Andrew Franklin came back from an early 6-1 deficit to send the bout into the third tied at 7-7. An escape by his regionally ranked opponent gave Ursinus an 8-7 decision and tied the match at 12-12.
The Bears won at 125 in a rematch of the 2024 CC championship bout to go ahead 15-12. At 133, sophomore CJ Horvath dominated from the beginning en route to his school-record-tying seventh technical fall of the season.
With the Mules trailing 18-17, sophomore 149-pounder Alex Greco scored a takedown early in the final bout, but his opponent came back for a major decision.
