Savage Reaches Futures Final
Four of the 10 Muhlenberg wrestlers who competed earned places at the Mideast Futures Tournament.
Leading the way was senior Deon Savage, who reached the final at 197. Savage (pictured above) won his first three bouts, all by fall, including an opening bout in which he overcame a 6-2 deficit by reversing and pinning his opponent early in the second period. It was the top career tournament placing for Savage, whose previous best was fourth at Alvernia in 2021 and at Lycoming earlier this year.
Junior Fletcher Goodman placed in a tournament for the third time this season, coming in fifth at 184. He shook off a 2-1 loss in his opening bout to win three straight, pinning his opponent in the fifth-place bout in just 50 seconds.
Junior Brian McCaw and freshman CJ Horvath tied for fifth at 125, both going 3-1 and electing not to wrestle against each other. All three of Horvath's wins came on pins.
Freshman Tyson Derenberger won back-to-back consolation bouts at 174 on first-period pins, and senior Ricky Caamano recorded a pair of wins at 141. Sophomore 141-pounder David Rosenfarb pinned his first opponent in a career-best 16 seconds.
