Women's Lacrosse Ties Best Start
The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team matched the best start in program history with a 17-7 home win against Nazareth.
Heading into Saturday's Centennial Conference opener against fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall, the Mules are 7-0 for the third time. They also won their first seven games in 2016 and last year.
Senior Nicole Steiner and junior Jillian Kubikowski each netted four goals as Muhlenberg won by at least 10 goals for the third consecutive game.
Senior Lily Seifert finished with a career-high 8 points on a goal and 7 assists, becoming the first Mule player ever to have two games of at least 7 assists in the same season. Her 28 assists this season are just one short of the career high she established as a sophomore.
The defense, meanwhile, held the Golden Flyers (3-5) to single digits in goals for the first time in five games. Nazareth put only 12 shots on goal and went almost 15 minutes without scoring during the second and third quarters.
The game was tied 1-1 more than six minutes in before Muhlenberg went on a 7-1 run to take command. Freshman Emma Youngling scored a pair of the goals and Seifert assisted on four of them to four different players, including freshman Rylee Hulack (pictured above). The run also featured a beautiful quick stick goal by sophomore Ava Milia off a pass from out wide by sophomore Abba Diglio, who also recorded 7 draw controls to tie her career high.
Freshman Alyssa Hartnett put the icing on the win with 5:18 remaining by putting a free-position shot into an empty net after the Nazareth goalie was called for a foul.
