Late Run Not Enough for Men's Basketball
The Muhlenberg men's basketball team played from behind all game and could never catch up, falling 71-60 at Washington College.
The Shoremen (6-9, 1-2) hit a three-pointer in the first minute to break the seal and remained on top for the rest of the game.
Trailing by as many as 13 points early in the second half, the Mules (7-8, 0-3) made their best bid to take the lead with an 8-0 run that made it 57-55 with under five minutes remaining. Freshman Drew Buck scored five points in the run, while senior Luke Gordos added a three-pointer and a spectacular block of a fast-break layup attempt.
Washington called timeout and stemmed the tide, however, scoring the next six points, and went 8-of-10 from the line in the final two minutes to put the game away.
Senior Giovanni Rubino neared a triple-double for the second time this season, finishing with 13 points, 9 assists and 7 rebounds. The 13 points pushed him into 11th place on the program's all-time list with 1,410 career points, just 19 away from the top 10.
Sophomore Peter Stanton-Shepherd recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Gavin D'Iorio (pictured above) scored 12 points and Buck added 10.
