Men's Tennis Wins Spring Opener

The Muhlenberg men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 home shutout of Stevenson.

The Muhlenberg men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 7-0 home shutout of Stevenson.

With two exceptions, the Mules (4-0) breezed past the Mustangs (1-3), who reached the MAC Commonwealth championship match last year.

At second and third doubles and second through sixth singles, Muhlenberg dropped a total of only 15 games. Despite playing with a brace on his left hand, sophomore William Rose (pictured above) lost just one game combined in his doubles and singles matches.

Sophomore Matt Miller and freshman Max Gofton, playing together for the first time in a match, came back from a 4-1 deficit to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-4. Miller also played an exciting first singles match, winning 10-4 in a super tiebreaker after splitting two close sets. The tiebreaker was tied 3-3 before Miller dropped a deep lob just inside the baseline to score the first of five straight points that gave him a commanding lead.

The Mules are 4-0 for the second straight year and have won six straight matches against non-conference opponents.
