Rubino Honored Again
For the second time this season, Muhlenberg senior Giovanni Rubino was named Centennial Conference men's basketball player of the week.
Rubino was named MVP of Albright's DoubleTree Holiday Tournament after averaging 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists while shooting 56.7 percent from the field in two games to lead the Mules to their first road tournament championship in 13 years.
Rubino flirted with a triple-double in the championship game against Alfred, finishing with 26 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. He shot 10-of-14 from the field, including 6-of-8 from three-point range. Rubino set a career high with 9 rebounds in the first round, adding 16 points in a 48-45 win against Scranton. He committed only four turnovers in 77 minutes in the two games.
Between his points and his assists, Rubino had a hand in 70 of the 121 points scored by Muhlenberg in the tournament.
For the season, Rubino is fourth in the CC in scoring at 17.8 points per game. He also ranks in the top 10 in the league in field-goal percentage (fourth), three-pointers (third), assists (second) and assist-to-turnover ratio (second).
