Pierpont Named Player of the Week
Muhlenberg junior Melissa Pierpont was named Centennial Conference women's lacrosse defensive player of the week.
Pierpont caused three turnovers and picked up a career-high seven ground balls to lead the Muhlenberg defense in an important 11-8 win at Washington College. The Mules had not won in Chestertown since 2010, and they hadn't held Washington - which received votes in the Division III poll earlier this season - to single digits in goals since 2005. The defense allowed only one goal in the fourth quarter and only one shot in the final seven minutes to preserve the lead.
The win improved the Mules' record to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the CC, putting them into a tie for fourth place behind three nationally ranked teams.
For the season, PierpontĀ is tied for the Muhlenberg team lead with 26 ground balls. She also is second on the team and tied for fifth in the CC with 18 caused turnovers.
