Varsity Field Dedicated
Varsity Field, one of Muhlenberg's most historic athletic facilities, was dedicated prior to the recent women's lacrosse game against Dickinson.
Pictured above at the dedication are, left to right, women's lacrosse players Melissa Pierpont and Emily Vaughan, men's soccer player Ben Mulford, Muhlenberg President Kathleen Harring, men's soccer player Kevin Adams and women's soccer players Jocelyn Mertz and Abigail Trimble.
Varsity Field, which has been in continuous use since the inception of the men's soccer program in 1943, underwent several enhancements last summer, most notably having its grass field replaced with synthetic turf. The project made Muhlenberg one of just three institutions in the Centennial Conference with two on-campus turf facilities.
Varsity Field has a long and distinguished history as the site of many important soccer games, including 13 Centennial Conference playoff games and seven NCAA Tournament games in the last quarter-century. The Mule men's soccer team hosted two Centennial Conference playoff games in 2023 and the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2014, and the women's soccer team has won two Centennial Conference championships on Varsity Field.
The women's lacrosse team has continued to grow and flourish in its first season on the resurfaced facility. The Mules are 10-3, reaching double digits in wins for the third straight season for the first time in program history, and are in strong contention for a Centennial Conference playoff berth.
