Women's Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker
The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team played its third straight one-goal game against Dickinson, falling 12-11 in overtime.
Neither team ever led by more than two goals in the closely contested matchup of two teams in the middle of the Centennial Conference playoff race. The Mules (9-3, 2-3) took a 10-8 lead into the final period but were held to one goal the rest of the way.
The Red Devils (8-4, 3-2) netted the first three goals of the fourth quarter to reclaim the lead at 11-10. With 2:29 remaining, junior Jillian Kubikowski ripped a left-handed shot into the top of the net for her fourth goals of the game, tying the score back up at 11-11.
Each team took one shot in the remainder of regulation, with neither finding the back of the net.
Muhlenberg never touched the ball in the extra period. Dickinson won the opening draw, and although junior Ellison Ervin stopped a free-position shot 30 seconds in with a tough save, the Red Devils picked up the rebound and scored one minute in.
The Mules trailed 7-6 midway through the third quarter before closing out the period with four goals, two by Kubikowski and one each by freshman Rylee Hulack and senior Nicole Steiner.
Joining Kubikowski with 4 goals was Steiner, who netted her 30th career hat trick. She moved up from seventh to fifth on the program's all-time list with 154 goals.
Senior Lily Seifert (pictured above) scored a goal and recorded the 99th assist of her career.
Ervin finished with 13 saves, including 10 in the first half. Juniors Rebecca Himelfarb and Emily Vaughan each controlled 6 draws, leading Muhlenberg to a 16-9 advantage.
