Six Named All-Region in Football

Six Muhlenberg players were named to the D3football.com All-Region 2 team.

Six Muhlenberg players were named to the D3football.com All-Region 2 team.

Senior offensive tackle Zach Greenberg, senior safety John Lohrer, senior tight end James Nye and junior quarterback Joe Repetti all earned second-team honors, while senior linebacker Tyler Ekstrom and senior guard Jack Kinerney landed on the second team.

The six all-region selections are tied for the second-most in program history, topped only by the 2021 squad that featured seven all-region players. The Mules also had six all-region picks in 2016.

Greenberg was Muhlenberg's lone repeat selection. He earned third-team all-region honors in 2021 before missing most of the 2022 season with injury. Only the second offensive lineman in program history named to the D3football.com all-region team twice, Greenberg anchored a line that allowed only eight sacks all season, paving the way for the Mules to average 38.6 points and 444.1 yards per game.

Lohrer tied a school record with his total of 13 pass breakups, which tied for the Centennial Conference lead and tied for ninth in Division III). He also recorded 46 tackles (fourth on the team), including 2 for loss, an interception and a forced fumble for a unit that led the CC in scoring defense and was second in total defense and pass efficiency defense.

Nye, who was named a second-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, led the Mules in every receiving category in 2023, catching 44 passes for 791 yards (an average of 18.0 yards per reception) and 14 touchdowns (one short of the school record and the most by any NCAA tight end). He caught at least one TD pass in nine of the Mules' 11 games and recorded three 100-yard games.

Repetti, the CC offensive player of the year, ranks among the Division III leaders in passing touchdowns (fifth with 40), total touchdowns (fifth with 48), completion percentage (21st at .686), passing efficiency (eighth at 183.5) and total offense yards (15th at 312.9 per game). He was involved in 48 of the Mules' 58 offensive touchdowns, becoming the first player on record to lead the team in rushing and passing in back-to-back seasons.

Ekstrom led Muhlenberg with 84 tackles and paced the CC in tackles per game (8.4). He was fourth on the Mules with 6½ tackles for loss, including a sack, and also recorded two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and a pair of pass breakups.

Kinerney earned first-team All-CC honors for the second straight season. He started every game at right guard and did not allow a sack.

Muhlenberg finished the 2023 season with a 10-1 record, reaching double digits in wins for the sixth time in program history. The Mules earned a postseason berth for the 19th time in the last 23 seasons and won a postseason game for the sixth consecutive season. They were ranked 17th in the final AFCA Division III poll of the regular season.
