Women's Basketball in Italy: Part 2
The Muhlenberg women's basketball team spent the end of May touring Italy. Rising senior Rachel Saxton wrote back with highlights from the second leg of the trip.
After beautiful tours of Padua and Venice, we departed for Tuscany, stopping at a local farm called Fattoria il Poggio for an authentic and delicious Tuscan lunch tasting. While there, we learned about the process of producing wine and olive oil as we toured the vineyards and olive groves overlooking the gorgeous Montecarlo hillside.
Following our delicious meal, it was on to our second stop of the day, Pisa. Here we visited Piazza dei Miracoli, a famous square renowned for its stunning architecture and famous masterpieces such as the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery, the Duomo and the Campo Santo. Our team had the opportunity to climb the tower steps together and then be greeted with a magnificent view of the entire town of Pisa. It was definitely fun and worth the effort!
We capped off the day by playing a very good and gracious ASD Nico team. Considering our team had not played together since February, I was proud of our effort especially after a couple days of traveling and sightseeing. ASD Nico came out strong but the Mules were able to cut the lead to within six. Unfortunately it was not enough and ASD Nico would go on to win. After the game, the team enjoyed an all-you-can-eat pizza dinner at a local restaurant called Centrale.
