Softball Playoff Game Suspended

Weather again delayed the Muhlenberg softball team's pursuit of a Centennial Conference championship.

Weather again delayed the Muhlenberg softball team's pursuit of a Centennial Conference championship.

The CC playoffs, scheduled to be completed last weekend, were pushed back a week due to rain after only four games were completed. The fifth game resulted in the 3-0 win by Swarthmore against top-seeded Washington College, eliminating the hosts, but the sixth game, also an elimination game, was suspended after two innings due to rain with Swarthmore leading Muhlenberg, 4-2.

The game will be resumed Saturday morning, with Gettysburg awaiting the winner. The Bullets need only one win for the title, while the Mules and Garnet would need three wins in one day (including the suspended game) to claim the championship.

After falling behind 3-0 in the bottom of the first, Muhlenberg rallied for two in the top of the second. Freshman Lillie Teague started the rally with a long double to left that missed being a home run by feet. Freshman Skyla Campisi followed with a line drive single to center that brought in Teague.

Campisi (pictured above) made it around to third when the throw from the outfield got loose and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Brianna Kessler.

Swarthmore scored a run in the bottom of the second, but the deteriorating field conditions and difficulty of keeping the ball dry caused the umpires to halt the game as the Mules were about to come up in the top of the third.
