Track and Field Teams on Fast Track
The Muhlenberg track and field teams enjoyed several huge performances at the Fasttrack National Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
The hugest was by sophomore David Seel, who ran 1:52.06 to break a 15-year-old school record in the 800 meters, finishing fifth overall and first among collegiate runners. He soared past his previous best of 1:55.80 by more than three minutes and also easily surpassed the school mark of 1:53.19. It was the second school record of the season for Seel, who set the standard in the 1000 in December.
Sophomore Maya Richwine closed in on school records in two events. She came in seventh in the 60-meter hurdles, running a season-best qualifying time of 9.10. In the 200 meters, Richwine (pictured above right) finished in 26.35 to come in fifth among Division III runners. She made a big improvement on her previous personal best of 26.65, moving to within 0.12 seconds of the school record of 26.23.
Other Mule athletes to excel in two events were sophomores Maxwell Broadbent and Christopher Short.
Broadbent set a personal best of 21-6¾ in the long jump, finishing second and entering the all-time performance list in sixth place, and placed seventh in the triple jump.
Short set personal bests in both the 200 (22.79) and the 400 (50.13). He stayed in third place on the performance list in the 200, closer to the school record of 22.40, and jumped from eighth to second on the performance list in the 400 with the best time by a Muhlenberg runner since 2011.
Also turning in all-time top 10 performances were sophomores Marc Sebastian Montalvo (pictured above left), whose time of 8:54.25 in the 3000 ranks 10th, and Bryce Rhodeman, who entered the performance list in the 200 in 10th place with a time of 23.23.
