Women's Basketball Back in Win Column
The Muhlenberg women's basketball team snapped a four-game skid with a 69-53 home win against Bryn Mawr.
Freshman Veronica Dawson tied her career high of 21 points, netting 17 in the second half as the Mules (12-5, 3-4) pulled away to remain undefeated all-time against the Owls (7-11, 0-8).
Muhlenberg scored off the opening tip, with junior Katie McGrath converting a pass from senior Rachel Saxton just 5 seconds into the game, and led 15-2 late in the first quarter.
Bryn Mawr closed to within one in the second quarter, but the Mules took a seven-point lead into the break after McGrath blocked a shot and sophomore Faith Tucker grabbed the rebound and fed senior Emily Unger for a buzzer-beating layup.
The Owls were within three a little more than a minute into the second half before Muhlenberg extended its lead again, regaining a double-digit advantage on a basket by senior Megan Winters with 5:44 left in the quarter.
Behind eight points from Dawson, the Mules kept a double-digit lead for the final 7:43.
Senior Ava Connolly (pictured above) scored 18 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. She hit the 100th three-pointer of her career in the first quarter and also blocked a pair of shots.
Saxton finished with 10 points, adding 6 assists without a turnover. Unger came close to her first career double-double, finishing with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
