Fast Start Not Enough for Volleyball
The Muhlenberg volleyball team got off to a fast start at Gettysburg before falling in three sets.
The Mules (6-8, 0-2) jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set, with freshman Emma Laskaj (pictured above) serving during a 6-0 run that featured a pair of kills by junior Christina Marcina and a kill apiece by senior Rachel Jacobs and freshman Olivia Bruno, who also combined on a block.
But the Bullets (15-1, 1-0) who are four spots outside the top 25 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, came back to take the set 27-25.
Gettysburg breezed to a win in the second set, but Muhlenberg pushed the Bullets again in the third set, taking a 14-11 lead before falling 25-20.
Marcin led the Mules with 10 kills, while Jacobs finished with 9. Sophomore Jenny Ryan recorded 30 assists, the second-most in her career in a three-set match.
