Baseball Wins in Texas
The Muhlenberg baseball team scored multiple runs in five innings in a 14-6 win at Southwestern.
The game was late in starting due to a lightning delay, but the Mules (7-4) struck quickly after the first pitch, plating two runs in the first, second and fourth innings and pulling away with four in the fifth and four more in the seventh. It was their first win outside of the Eastern time zone since 2006, when they traveled to Arizona for Spring Break.
Graduate student Jack Kent dealt the biggest blow, a two-run homer in the fourth that extended Muhlenberg's lead to 6-2. Kent reached base in four of his six plate appearances, scoring three times.
Junior Thomas Pranzo drove in four runs with a two-run single, RBI single and bases-loaded walk. Senior Brendan Bussiere was 3-for-4 with three RBI, two coming on a triple in the seventh.
The Mules again showed patience at the plate, drawing and taking advantage of 17 free passes (12 walks and five hit batters). Sophomore Marc Quarrie stole two bases and scored three runs despite not getting a hit, and freshman Sean Habeeb scored a pair of runs.
Freshman Joe Zito came off the bench to deliver a run-scoring pinch-single in the seventh in his first career at-bat.
Senior Dylan O'Donnell (pictured above) earned his first career win, striking out a batter with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning and then pitching a scoreless sixth.
Sophomore Charlie Siper and senior James Hopke also tossed scoreless innings in relief.
