Borbi Sets Record in Final Tuneup
The Muhlenberg track and field teams sent athletes to two sites in their final tuneup for the Centennial Conference Championships, getting first-place performances at both.
At Kutztown's Golden Bear Invite, senior Erica Borbi won the weight throw with a mark of 47-4½, slipping past the previous school record by a quarter-inch. The distance ranks 10th on the Centennial Conference all-time performance list.
At the Bucknell Tuneup, freshman Sean McNeil won the triple jump in 46-0½ as the only Division III athlete in the field.
The other two Mules who competed in the Bucknell Tuneup also did well, with sophomore Christopher Short finishing fifth in the 200 with a clocking of 22.62 seconds. He improved on his previous personal best of 22.79, moving from third to second on Muhlenberg's all-time performance list.
Junior Lauren Siesky also ran the 200 at Bucknell, setting a personal best of 27.94.
Back at Kutztown, freshman Molly Curtis (pictured above left) placed second in the triple jump, and junior Shira Gamson came in second in the long jump with a season-best mark of 16-1, less than two inches off her personal best. Junior Jem Berney was third in the mile with a personal-best time.
In addition to Borbi and Berney, three other Mules set personal bests: sophomore Sultan Almosbeh (pictured above right) in the 200 and senior Hayden Klein and freshman Sophia Sciarrino in the mile.
