Postcards from Abroad: Jason Edelstein

Men's soccer junior Jason Edelstein writes back from his study abroad in London.

Junior Jason Edelstein, a media and communication major and member of the Muhlenberg men's soccer team, is currently studying in London. Here is what he had to say about his experience so far.

What has been your favorite part about studying abroad?

My favorite part about studying abroad has definitely been the traveling. Having the opportunity to visit places like Barcelona, Amsterdam and Brussels all within a few weeks of each other has been an incredible experience.

What made you decide to study abroad?

There's a few factors that solidified my decision to go abroad. My older sister studied in Stockholm a few years ago and loved it, and also hearing about the many positive experiences that my older teammates had while abroad really pushed me to go.

What is something you have learned about yourself while studying abroad?

I've learned that I am more open to doing spontaneous things than I initially thought. For example, I bought a last-minute train ticket to visit my friends in Brussels for the night, and I only spent about 15 hours in the country. Being so close to so many beautiful and historic cities has pushed me to try visit as many as I can.

What classes are you taking?

I'm taking an Ethics in the Media course, a Writing in the City course, a British Museums course and a Strategic Communications course.

How have you kept up with your sport while abroad?

Through a family friend of mine living in London, I have joined a 6 v 6 soccer league in Shoreditch. While it's only once a week, it's been great for me as a platform to play my favorite sport casually while also meeting new people. I have also been to a number of live matches, throughout London and in other countries as well.

What has been the favorite place you have visited?

Probably Barcelona. The weather was great and I got to walk around a great deal of the city. I went to visit the Picasso Museum as well as the Sagrada Familia. The culture is fascinating, and it was one of the more welcoming cities to Americans that I have been to.

What is one thing you miss most about Muhlenberg?

Definitely my friends and teammates. While I've been lucky that several of my friends have decided to also study abroad this semester, I also have many who are back at school right now. As I'm nearing the end of my semester, I'm definitely looking forward to returning to Muhlenberg next fall.
