Muhlenberg Hosts Novice Tournament
Muhlenberg College played host to its first-ever women's wrestling tournament on Sunday, December 3.
This novice event provided an opportunity for women with similar experience levels to compete. In the fall season, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Training Centers hosted women's wrestling clinics leading up to this event.
More than 40 participants were able to compete in two or three matches during the day. Participants were paired by weight class and experience in a freestyle matchup. Over 60 matches were contested, and everyone appreciated the much-needed opportunity.
Participants included wrestlers from Cedar Crest, Columbia, Cornell, Lehigh, Princeton, Rutgers, Utica and more.
"It was an honor to host an event like this. To see the sport grow only helps our program down the road," said Muhlenberg head women's wrestling coach Travis Spencer. The Mules are scheduled to begin competition during the 2024-25 academic year.
"It was awesome to have such high-academic institutions with rich wrestling history in our gym," added Spencer.
Muhlenberg would like to thank the following for their support with this event:
- D1 Women's Wrestling - Lori Ayres
- Lehigh Valley RTC – Kerry McCoy
- Wrestle Like a Girl – Sally Roberts
