Field Hockey Continues Scoring Surge
The Muhlenberg field hockey team erupted for six second-half goals en route to defeating Utica, 7-0.
The win was the third straight for the Mules (3-2), and they have scored at least four goals in all of them. It's the first time they've netted at least four goals in three consecutive games since 2007, and they've also scored at least three goals in four straight contests for the first time since 2000.
The seven goals were the most in a game for Muhlenberg since 2016, which was also the last time the Mules put up six goals in a half.
Five different players contributed to the offensive onslaught by scoring goals, led by junior Abba Diglio and freshman Danielle Kapsak with a pair apiece. The two goals gave Diglio 25 for her career.
Seniors Erin Jackson and Devon Eastlack joined junior Erin DiSandro in scoring a single goal.
Five players also recorded assists, with junior Lily Botta and freshman Grace Koloras notching their first career points.
Kapsak's goal in the closing seconds of the first quarter was the lone score for the Mules in the first half despite a 10-0 advantage in shots. Muhlenberg broke the game open by scoring four times in the third quarter.
For the second straight home game, the defense did not allow a shot until the fourth quarter. Sophomore Maddie Schwartz recorded 3 saves in the final period to finish off her fourth career shutout.
