Women's Basketball in Italy: Part 1
The Muhlenberg women's basketball team is spending the end of May touring Italy. Rising senior Megan Winters wrote back about the first couple of days of the trip.
The team began our trip to Italy with a guided tour in Padua. We started off at Scrovegni Chapel. The chapel is known for its fresco created by Giotto in the 14th century.
After the chapel, we continued with a walking tour of the city. We were able to explore Padua University, many of the coffee houses and shops as well as some of the restaurants. One of the coffee houses we stopped in was Caffe Pedrocchi, the oldest and most famous cafe in the city. Its signature drink is coffee with a cold mint cream on top - the coffee Pedrocchi - which was delicious.
The second day was spent touring the city of Venice. We took a water taxi to get into the city of Venice. Once in the city, gondola rides, tours of St. Mark's Square, the basilica and local shopping highlighted the day. The frescoes in the basilica were made with squares no bigger than the tip of your pinky. It took the artisans over 300 years to complete.
We also got the opportunity to watch glassmaking where glass was formed into beautiful glasses and pitchers in less than 10 minutes. We ended the day with a team dinner at Trattoria de Bruno.
