Men's Soccer Clinches Playoff Berth

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team secured a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the third consecutive year.

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team secured a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the third consecutive year.

The Mules' 0-0 draw at Washington College left them in a tie for fifth in the CC with one game remaining in the regular season. They play McDaniel, the team they're tied with, at home in next Saturday's regular-season finale and could finish anywhere from third through sixth. The third and fourth seeds host first-round playoff games.

Muhlenberg (9-3-5, 3-1-4) controlled play for the majority of the game against the Shoremen (8-3-5, 4-2-2), who reached the Division III semifinals last year. The Mules finished with a 19-4 advantage in shots and came closest to scoring when senior Jake Mendelson hit the crossbar in the first half.

The back three of senior Evan Schlotterbeck, junior Trevor Mikuta (pictured above) and sophomore Sam Roberts did not allow a shot on goal.

The Mules, ranked seven in Region V by United Soccer Coaches, played two road games against the two teams ranked just ahead of them this week. They won one and tied the other, recording shutouts in both while allowing a total of only three shots on goal. Muhlenberg is 2-1-2 against teams ranked higher in the region.
