Men's Soccer Suffers First Centennial Loss

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team suffered its first Centennial Conference loss of the season, 4-2 at home to ninth-ranked Franklin & Marshall.

The Muhlenberg men's soccer team suffered its first Centennial Conference loss of the season, 4-2 at home to ninth-ranked Franklin & Marshall.

The Mules (7-3-3, 2-1-2), who had their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped, allowed all four goals in the first half, including two just 85 seconds apart in the final five minutes of the period that turned a 2-1 game into a 4-1 game.

Senior Jake Mendelson scored Muhlenberg's first-half goal after freshman Saleem Diakite (pictured above) intercepted an attempted clearing pass off a goal kick by the Diplomats (7-0-6, 5-0). He passed it to Mendelson, who shot it over the head of the goalie for his fourth career goal.

The Mules closed to within two early in the second half when sophomore Sam Roberts netted his first career goal off a set piece after sophomore Gabe Blikshteyn drew a foul. The free kick by senior Evan Schlotterbeck was headed by junior Sim Dorsey to Roberts, who knocked it in at the post.

Mendelson and Roberts became the 10th and 11th Mules to score goals this season.

This was the second straight year that F&M defeated Muhlenberg 4-2 in the regular season. Last year, the Mules went on to knock off the Diplomats in the CC semifinals en route to advancing to the championship game for the second consecutive season.
