McCaw Wins Title at Lycoming
Senior Brian McCaw made an impressive run through the bracket to win the 125-pound title at Lycoming's Rennie Rodarmel Allstate Invitational.
McCaw (pictured above) won his four bouts on a pin, technical fall and two major decisions to capture his third career tournament title. In his last one, however, he did not actually wrestle in the final, sharing the crown with a teammate who had also advanced to the final.
This time, McCaw did wrestle in the final, and he wrestled a very strong opponent from host Lycoming who came in with a 27-3 record and has been ranked as high as 10th in Division III this season by The Open Mat.
McCaw recorded two takedowns in a span of 32 seconds late in the first period en route to taking an 8-2 lead after the first three minutes. Although he was reversed early in the second period and ridden for nearly the entire period, McCaw closed out the second by reversing his opponent - currently ranked first in Region 2 - to his back for six points, extending his advantage to 14-4. He went on to win, 16-7.
McCaw led a small contingent of six Mules who competed at the tournament, and three of the six placed. Freshman Noah Schlofer came in fourth at 197, winning his first two bouts on a first-minute pin and a technical fall, while sophomore Jace Yannucciello placed sixth at 133, recording one pin before hanging on for a tight 7-6 decision in the consolation semifinal.
