Women's Lacrosse Wins Second Straight
For the second time in as many games this season, the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to win.
A week after erasing a 3-0 deficit in a 16-6 win against Moravian, the Mules climbed out of a 4-0 hole to edge Misericordia, 12-11.
Senior Nicole Steiner and sophomore Lauren Cherven both recorded hat tricks for the second straight game, with Cherven needing only two games to match her 2023 season total of 6 goals.
Muhlenberg trailed by four goals with just over a minute left in the first quarter before goals 37 seconds apart by Steiner and Cherven cut the gap in half and ignited a 7-0 run.
Junior Jillian Kubikowski scored to knot the game at 4-4 less than five minutes into the second quarter, and freshman Emma Youngling netted her first career goal on a free-position shot with 8:16 left in the half to put the Mules ahead for good.
The Cougars (1-2) closed to within 7-6 midway through the third quarter, but back-to-back goals by sophomore Ava Milia and Cherven extended the lead back to three.
The lead seesawed between two goals and three goals for most of the rest of the game until Misericordia scored to make it 12-11 with 1:33 left. But junior Emily Vaughan controlled the ensuing draw, and Muhlenberg ran out the remaining time to improve to 6-0 in their last six one-goal games.
Senior Lily Seifert notched 5 points for the second straight game, adding her first two goals of the season to three assists. Kubikowski (pictured above) finished with 2 goals and 2 assists.
Junior Melissa Pierpont led the defense with 4 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.
