Women's Wrestling Sweeps to First Dual Win
The Muhlenberg women's wrestling team won every contested bout en route to landing the first dual meet win in program history, 29-15 vs. Felician.
The Mules (1-3) also were edged by Randolph, 20-18, and fell to host York, 44-5, in the quad match.
Felician took forfeits at 110, 117 and 124 to open a 15-0 lead, but Muhlenberg scored the rest of the points. After freshman Alessandra Rodriguez pinned her opponent in the first period, senior Penelope Schneider built a 12-0 lead to win by technical superiority for the second time on the day.
A pair of first-minute pins, by freshmen Karla Lazaro (pictured above) at 160 and Kelsey Gelb at 207, combined with two forfeits, provided the final margin in the historic win.
Gelb, who normally competes at 160, moved up to the highest weight class and was taken to her back early in the bout, but reversed her bigger opponent and pinned her.
Gelb had a sensational day, with three pins, all in under a minute. In the Randolph match, she needed only 19 seconds to flatten her opponent, breaking the school record for fastest pin that she established at 31 seconds in the Cedar Crest match. Gelb is 8-1 on the season with 6 pins.
The Mules went 3-2 in contested bouts against Randolph but lost on forfeits. In addition to the wins by Gelb and Schneider, freshman Ella Pomeranz recorded her first career win on a tech.
