Men's Soccer Earns NCAA Tournament Bid
For the 16th time in its history, and the second in the last three years, the Muhlenberg men's soccer team will be playing for a national championship.
The Mules earned one of 21 at-large berths to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will travel to Amherst College to face Stevens in a first-round game on Saturday, November 16, at 1:30. The other first-round matchup at the site pairs Amherst against Neumann, with the winners squaring off Sunday for the right to advance to the "Sweet 16."
The last time the Mules received an at-large berth, in 2010, they played at Stevens and won their first two games to reach the "Sweet 16."
Muhlenberg has advanced past the first round in each of its last three NCAA appearances, reaching the "Sweet 16" again in 2014 and the second round in its last appearance in 2022.
The Mules (12-3-6) played in their third consecutive Centennial Conference championship game on Sunday, coming back to tie Johns Hopkins 1-1 before falling in penalty kicks. Muhlenberg was one of four CC teams to earn a spot in the national tournament.
Stevens earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament as the champion of the MAC Freedom League. The Ducks (11-3-4) are making their 20th NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001 and have reached the national semifinals twice, playing in the 2008 national championship game.
Muhlenberg holds an 18-11-1 all-time series lead against Stevens in a series dating back to 1943, the first year of soccer at Muhlenberg. The teams last faced off against each other in 2015.
