More Personal Bests for Cross Country
The Muhlenberg cross country teams continued to show progress at Rowan's Border Battle, the final tuneup for the Centennial Conference Championships.
Of the 10 scoring runners for the two teams, five recorded personal bests.
For the women, junior Jem Berney, senior Hadley DeVarennes and sophomore Ava Lundy ran personal bests, finishing first, second and fourth, respectively, among the Mules. Berney took 49 seconds off their previous best, while DeVarennes (pictured above left) set a personal best for the second straight meet, breaking 25 minutes for the first time.
Sophomore Maggie Holderith and junior Julia Tassone also ran in Muhlenberg's top five.
Sophomore Marc Sebastian Montalvo finished in the top third of the men's field, crossing the line 91st out of 279 runners in his low 8K time of 26:35.3. Junior Andrew Smolowitz, Muhlenberg's third runner, also established a personal best.
Sophomore David Seel was the Mules' second runner. Senior Markus Vottero (pictured above right) was fourth in his season debut, and senior Mason Tran returned to action after missing the last two meets to finish as Muhlenberg's fifth runner.
