Cross Country Teams Go Green

In their second-to-last tuneup for the Centennial Conference Championships, the Muhlenberg cross country teams competed in the Green races at Lehigh's Paul Short Run.

In their second-to-last tuneup for the Centennial Conference Championships, the Muhlenberg cross country teams competed in the Green races at Lehigh's Paul Short Run.

The men finished 13th out of 22 complete teams, led by sophomore Marc Sebastian Montalvo, who placed 12th - ninth among Division III runners. He improved his time at Lehigh's course by over two minutes from his last 8K race there.

Junior Andrew Smolowitz (28th) and sophomore David Seel (38th) also finished in the top 40 among 202 finishers. Smolowitz ran a career-best 8K time, and Seel (pictured above left) improved his personal best on Lehigh's course by more than a minute. 

Sophomore TJ Cook Jr. and senior Hayden Klein rounded out the Mules' top five.

The women came in 18th out of 32 complete teams and eighth among Division III squads. Sophomore Maggie Holderith (pictured above right) was Muhlenberg's top runner, knocking almost a minute and a half from her time when she ran at Lehigh in August.

The next three Mule finishers all ran 6K personal bests. Senior Hadley DeVarennes finished in 25:19.7, beating her previous standard by 51 seconds. Senior Ellen Maguire (25:44.4) cut her time at Lehigh in August by more than two and a half minutes, and sophomore Ava Lundy (25:47.2) ran a full minute faster.

Junior Jem Berney rounded out Muhlenberg's top five.
