Repetti, Kovacs to Captain Football
Two seniors - quarterback Joe Repetti and safety Owen Kovacs - were selected as captains of the 2024 Muhlenberg football team.
Repetti, who is in his second year as a captain, is one of the top returning quarterbacks in Division III. The 2023 Centennial Conference offensive player of the year, he ranked among the Division III leaders in passing touchdowns (sixth with 40), total touchdowns (sixth with 48), completion percentage, passing efficiency (eighth at 183.5) and total offense yards (16th at 312.9 per game). Repetti was involved in 48 of the Mules' 58 offensive touchdowns, becoming the first player on record to lead the team in rushing and passing in back-to-back seasons.
Kovacs started nine games at safety last season and ranked fifth on the Mules with 38 total tackles. He was one of the leaders of a unit that led the CC in rushing defense, scoring defense, tackles for loss and turnovers gained. Kovacs tied for the team and CC lead with 3 interceptions, picking off passes in important regular-season games vs. Johns Hopkins and Ursinus and in the Centennial-MAC Bowl Series win vs. Lebanon Valley. He also recorded two sacks and broke up a pair of passes.
Muhlenberg, ranked 21st in the D3football.com preseason poll, is scheduled to open its 2024 season at Moravian on Saturday, September 7. The Mules have posted 13 straight winning seasons, compiling a tremendous 116-33 (.779) record during that span. Last year, they went 10-1, reaching double digits in wins for the sixth time in program history, earning a postseason berth for the 19th time in the last 23 seasons and winning a postseason game for the sixth consecutive season.
