Field Hockey Plays Another Top Team Close

For the second time in four days, the Muhlenberg field hockey team kept it close at home against a nationally ranked opponent, falling 2-0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins.

For the second time in four days, the Muhlenberg field hockey team kept it close at home against a nationally ranked opponent, falling 2-0 to No. 4 Johns Hopkins.

It was a 1-0 game until just over three minutes remained in the fourth quarter, when the five-time defending Centennial Conference champion Blue Jays (9-2, 4-0) finally netted an insurance goal after a sequence of five penalty corners.

The best chance for the Mules (5-5, 0-2) to score came in the final minute of the first half, when a blast from junior Lily Botta from the top of the circle was saved.

Sophomore Maddie Schwartz made 4 saves.

Muhlenberg's gauntlet, which started with a close 2-1 loss to 17th-ranked Ursinus on Wednesday, continues next week with a midweek game at 10th-ranked Bryn Mawr and a Saturday home game against Franklin & Marshall, a team that just defeated Bryn Mawr.
