The Muhlenberg field hockey team could not recover from a slow start and dropped its Centennial Conference opener at Gettysburg, 3-1.
The Bullets (8-1, 1-0) scored two goals in the first eight minutes to put the Mules (5-3, 0-1) in an early hole.
Muhlenberg cut the deficit in half late in the third quarter when junior Erin DiSandro intercepted an attempted clearing pass and fed freshman Ava Rahn, who swept the ball into the cage for her first career goal.
With just 18 seconds left in the third, however, Gettysburg scored off a penalty corner to extend its lead back to two. The Mules were able to attempt only one shot in the fourth quarter and had their five-game winning streak snapped.
